Falstaff Comic opera in 3 Acts by Giuseppe Verdi
Falstaff by Giuseppe Verdi
September 22 & 28, 2019
Veteran's Memorial Building,
Verdis Falstaff, performed in English at the beautiful Vets Hall in downtown Santa Cruz. The performance will include wine and appetizer reception. We will be performing this opera, adapted from Shakespeares The Merry Wives of Windsor.
World Premiere: Teatro alla Scala, Milan, 1893. A deeply human comedy full of humor and genuine emotion, Verdis last opera is a splendid finale to an unparalleled career in the theater. The story is an amalgamation of scenes from Shakespeare, primarily drawn from the comedy The Merry Wives of Windsor. It centers on the remarkable personality of Sir John Falstaff, one of literatures most compelling characters. With a supremely well-crafted score, which has long commanded the respect even of Verdis critics, it is an astounding work and among the greatest operatic comedies of all time.
Be sure to catch this sophisticated Shakespearean operatic comedy, brimming with backfired plans, failed disguises, and uproarious personalities. See our website for more information on Opera in the Park dates and venues.
The Falstaff production is also a part of our free Opera in the Park Series. For Opera in the Park Locations please see our webpage.
